# Backups and snapshots

## File and database backups

 Attention! **Snapshots** are backups performed by the client via **Zone+.** It is **free of charge** and copies can be self restored within 14 days in [“My Zone” control panel](https://my.zone.lv/dashboard/en/webhosting/webhost/backup).
**System backups** are created by Zone once a day and are kept for **14 days**. Restoring backups is paid, you need to send an email to <info@zone.lv>.
Restoring a backup costs **28€+KM** (cost of restoring one site).

**File backups** are made in an incremental manner, meaning that if a file hasn’t changed in the meantime, it will only take up as much space on the web server as the file itself.

**Databases are backed up** from a full state as a dump, eliminating the situation where the file system is incomplete and the database cannot be read anymore.

 Attention! Backups made for e-mails are not calculated off of your hosting disk space!

## Backup options

###### Snapshots (created by the client)

Zone+ snapshots are non-incremental saved states of the entire application, including all files and the database. Creating snapshots is the best way to save and restore application states before updates and changes. Snapshots are stored in the web server file system and are automatically deleted after 14 days or when the application is uninstalled.

###### System backups

System backups of all data (files, databases and e-mails) are created daily and retained for **14 days**. Detailed information about data backup principles can be found on our [**information security principles page**](https://www.zone.lv/en/terms-of-use/information-security-principles/).

## Restoration

###### Restore independently in the control panel (snapshots)

Snapshots can be created and used via [`My Zone`](https://my.zone.lv/dashboard/en/home) control panel by choosing [`Webhosting`](https://my.zone.lv/dashboard/en/webhosting/home) and **[`Backups`](https://my.zone.lv/dashboard/en/webhosting/webhost/backup)**.

In the following window you can choose your web application and manually create a new snapshot or perform a restoration from an existing snapshot. You can also add labels to identify the snapshots better (e.g. “before update”).

 Attention! Manually created snapshots are only stored for **14** **days!**
For the “**Pro**” package, you can assign automatic snapshot creation which allows the snapshots to be created with a storage period of up to **30 days!**

To perform a restoration via snapshot, click on the **`Restore`** button.
Application files and database are restored from date and time the snapshot was created.

###### Restore system backups through technical support

System backups are performed every night from **00:00 to 06:00** and saved for **up to 14 days!** Restoration is a paid service at a price of **28 euros+VAT/web page**. There are two ways to restore:

1. We restore the website to the desired date (by overwriting files and the database) – all data added in the meantime (e.g. orders, posts, etc.) will be lost.
2. We will restore the website state from a copy of the files to a separate folder. The database is restored to a separate database – to do this, a new and empty database must be created and it’s name specified to us.

To restore from a system backup, please send us a request with the **date** and **desired method** of restoration to **<info@zone.lv>**.

 Attention! On weekends and non-working hours the restoration fee is doubled to **56€+VAT/website!**

###### E-mail recovery

In the case of mailboxes, it is possible to recover deleted content for up to 14 days. This is a paid service at a cost of **28€+KM/mailbox**.

## Pro package users

For **Pro** package there are more options and features available for creating snapshots. **Pro** users can choose to store both automatic snapshots and system backups for up to **30** **days** (instead of the regular 14 day period).
